Breaking News! SecondLife To Go All Open-Source

Its nearly-official and you read it here first. Linden Labs has been seriously hinting that that they are going to open-source their SecondLife grid server technology.

This is a monumtal announcement which means that Secondlife's 3D technology will be able to be run anywhere and on any servers owned by any company.

Reports have been forthcoming in recent months that SL would be fully open-sourced, and Eyegloo is developing an implementation strategy so that it will be one of the first companies to host its own 3D world using SecondLife open-source technologies.

This announcement from Linden Labs (creators of SecondLife) will usher in a new internet era where 3D worlds will slowly begin to replace traditional websites.

Users will be able to seamlessly move from one 3D world to another without being limited to simulations that are available only within SecondLife.

This move bodes well for Eyegloo and its innovative virtual business models. Initiatives such as Virtual Providence will eventually operate entirely on servers owned and operated by Eyegloo instead of SecondLife.

While this open-source announcement was expected, it has come somewhat earlier than anticipated. This may be due to mounting pressure coming from companies like Google, who are reportedly working on their own virtual world technologies.

The implications behind this move are tremendous. Contact us today to find out how this will impact your plans to enter this virtual world.
